Self carpet shampooing verses Professional or rug doctor?

I need to shampoo my carpets but I want the best results possible. I know that the rug doctor is a commercial rug shampooer but do you think it has the same results as a professional coming in to clean them or would I get the same reults doing it myself?Self carpet shampooing verses Professional or rug doctor?
If you rent the rug doctor from the grocery store be prepared for it to be slightly heavy, and it will leave your carpets really wet. Mine did at least. There are some good products in the stores but check this site out and get a carpet cleaner from here:

It has the best, top qulity, brand name products at a great price. If you clean your carpets often I would recommend buying a cleaner. But if you don't a little mom and pop vacuum shop sometimes will rent out better machines.Self carpet shampooing verses Professional or rug doctor?
I purchased a Bissell steam cleaner a few years ago. It works extremely well. I only use Resolve rug cleaner in it even though the directions say to only use Bissell products. I've used the rug doctor in the past and my cleaner works at least as well.
